IWF Knowledge and Media (formerly The Institute For Scientific Film) is a service facility financed by the German federal government and the individual states for the multi-media communication of science.

IWF initiated a project in 1999 the for the electronic management and sale of its media assets. This system was developed by Blue Order and is based upon components of Media Archive and Media Transact.

All multi-media assets are managed by Media Archive, whilst Media Transact provides the e-commerce components that link into both the Media Archive and IWF proprietary ERP system.

The system provides an international online portal for scientific media. Hundreds of hours of digital media are accessible and ready for electronic distribution to the scientific community. The integrated solution of Media Archive and Media Transact allows IWF to produce, present and distribute media entirely electronically.

Eight thousand minutes of film and video material have already been digitized; their license rights have been secured; they have been put into clip form in collaboration with scientific editors, ready to be offered on the Internet.
