Yleisradio Oy. Helsinki, Finland
Finnish public broadcaster YLE has undertaken a project to digitize its entire radio archive. With its numerous television and radio programs, YLE is Finland's largest broadcasting organization. The project started in early 2001, with Blue Order's being responsible to provide the Media Management infrastructure for the digital radio archive. Purpose of the project was the long-term preservation and re-purposing of hundreds of thousands of hours of radio recordings. Blue Order's solution provides flexible access to digital radio, records and sound effect archives that are catalogued at rate of 8,000 radio broadcasts and 6,500 records a year.
The data management is based on the FONO2 and RARK2 databases developed by YLE. The management of the essence is built on top of the Media Archive Essence Manager. Blue Order has supplied an API to YLE that allows the integration with existing and new custom designed applications.
Further, Media Archive is being integrated with YLE's legacy Quadriga ingest and quality assurance stations and the Jutel RadioMan radio production system.
