Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF). Mainz, Germany
ZDF is Germany's largest national public broadcaster. Blue Order has undertaken various projects with ZDF, and in December 1999, ZDF senior management decided to select Blue Order as system integrator and general contractor for ZDF's Digital Video Archive Project by purchasing hardware, standard Media Archive software, software engineering and consulting services provided by Blue Order.
The project was launched in May 2001 with a system design and project planning phase in the first months. The project plan details a three-year implementation period. The initial pilot was installed in mid-2001, and the rollout of the main system commenced in early 2002.
ZDF's Digital Video Archive has been designed to serve up to 400 concurrent users and hold more than 10,000 hours of DV50 format video material in fully redundant, fully mirrored storage systems.
The system interfaces with an Avid iNews newsroom system. Within the project Blue Order acts as the general contractor and project co-ordinator.
