L3 — Life-Long Learning: A multimedia repository for learning and authoring environments. Distributed learning and authoring environments require decentralized administration and provision of multimedia course materials. As a foundation for this, blue order has developed a multimedia repository for the storage of learning materials. Media objects such as audio and video files, animations, pictures and texts are randomly brought together and the existing learning content is structured using didactic characteristics and then saved along with other descriptive, technical and legally related metadata. Identical contents can be saved synchronously in different formats. Hence in addition to the educational aspects, providing the contents for the users can also take into consideration the technical conditions e.g. the available network connection. The repository provides services for the recording, research, modification and distribution of the learning contents and hence forms the foundation for authoring tools, presentation and administration within L3. These developments expand blue order's work so far in the sector of audio-visual archives to include more universal applications.
